This book is about a boy who really wants a stegosaurus, and comes up with ways that the dinosaur will benefit him and everyone else. This funny book is a kid favorite! I have never read this to a child and had them not laugh! It's an easy book to "perform," because it lends itself to a lot of dramatics which make it much more fun to read aloud and to listen to. In the story, the little boy is repeatedly asking his mom if he can have a stegosaurus and giving all of these funny, outrageous reasons as to why he should be able to have one.
If there was a parade, he could see everything, if they went trick-or-treating together, he This funny book is a kid favorite! If there was a parade, he could see everything, if they went trick-or-treating together, he would definitely get good treats, if his teacher forgot a bus for the field trip, they could ride his stegosaurus. However, at the end of the book, we discover why he really keeps asking his mom, because he found a giant egg and it's about to hatch.
The book then ends with him asking his mom if he can have a tyrannosaurus rex hinting that the giant egg was not a stegosaurus, but a T. Rex instead. The illustrations add to the silliness of the book, because it recreates all of the outrageous scenarios the little boy has created in his head. The little boy and stegosaurus are also super cute!
The pictures fill up the entire page, while the words rest on top, which I think is great for a read-aloud, because the pictures are easy to see. This book is more fun than anything, but I think it could work to teach foreshadowing or context clues at the end especially, because of the indication that the egg was not a stegosaurus. But, mostly this book is just a really funny story to read that is sure to get some laughs! It would be great for a science lesson to get them interested in dinosaurs, but then correct all the ideas that the book gave them about dinosaurs.
It's perfect for lower grades, kindergarten, first, maybe even second grade. Oct 30, Jenna Parsons rated it it was amazing. This book is a very cute book. This book is perfect to show younger children what the definition of persuasion is with a book. I also like how this is so purely fiction that it makes it a easy and fun read for both youth and even adults reading this book to children.
Mar 06, Zachary McCoy rated it it was amazing. This is quite an entertainingly ridiculous book because of what the main character thinks he could do with a stegosaurus.
Not only that but he has no thoughts about the difficulties of taking care of an animal even if it were possible. My favorite part is definitely the twist ending. May 17, Maggie rated it it was amazing Shelves: kids-books.
My nieces and nephews love this book, makes them laugh every time we read it. Sep 08, Gabriel Huff rated it liked it. Cute story with a kids reasoning :. Apr 26, The Campbell Family rated it liked it Shelves: books-before-kindergarten-adam. I thought this would appeal to Adam 4. The repetitiveness was a little overdone as it was a long passage you had to keep repeating. The illustrations were just okay. We loved this fun picture book using great descriptive nouns for magical creatures. The pictures were dreamy too making it enchanting and delightful for my little ones. Mar 25, Taylor Paige rated it liked it.
I think this was a fine book. It didn't hold my interest, but I think students would enjoy it because it's fun to read and has good pictures. Feb 12, Anne Smith rated it liked it.
